Literature Text

She thought he was beautiful.
He thought she was perfect.
She scrutinised herself when he was with other girls;
She was the only one he saw.
He was the last thing on her mind at night.
He woke with an image of her smile.
He would listen out for her in crowds.
She would strain to hear his name.
He could never draw his eyes away;
She could never look.
He would share his umbrella to keep her from getting wet-
She always hoped for rain.
He once wrote her a letter to express his admiration.
She couldn't read his writing.

She promised herself that she would tell him.
He decided it was time to come clean.

She would hide her face when he came near,
And he would brush her hair back for her.
He would study the soft oval of her countenance
And she would lift her chin and look into his eyes.
And he would smile
And all barriers would fall between them
And all doubt would evaporate for one single, perfect moment.

And he would know she loved him.
And she would know he was hers.

He clears his throat awkwardly, and looks down at his untied laces. She begins to fidget with her somewhat stubby nails.

He mumbles, "The weather's pretty good today."
She Agrees.
Hiya! I wrote this a while ago after hearing about something that happened to one of my friends. Basically, she likes this guy and he clearly likes her back, and one time they were hanging out together and they looked at each other and in her words 'the world stopped'; in that moment they both knew and acknowledged the other's feelings... and yet all he did to break the tense atmosphere was blow an awkward raspberry at her :lick:

It got me thinking- why, when two people really like each other and there is clearly a powerful, unspoken agreement, can they not admit to it? Yet another cute thing about teenage love; it's like both parties know but fear of rejection and social anxiety still holds them back. Hence the poem. Enjoy^^

I hope you're not trying to trivialize social anxiety or something through this poem for "entertainment purposes" cuz' that's kinda what it seems here. Being socially awkward and actually having the damn illness is a different thing.
